This is a full-time, on-site role for a chief of staff located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, reporting directly to the managing director of Gray Capital. The chief of staff will assist the managing partner in the management of speaking engagements, events, travel, communications, presentations, reports, spreadsheets, preparation and follow-ups on inquiries in conjunction with the rest of the teams within Gray Capital and related entities. This position will also monitor, record, and facilitate daily transactions, such as billings, invoices, purchases, expenses, and other transactions. The chief of staff will also have responsibility for certain ongoing projects and tasks related to Gray Family Interests.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

​

  • At least three years of work experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a leading college or university and/or an MBA

  • Business to business marketing and communications experience, including social media and website management, and management of proposals and other marketing materials.

  • Experience in accounting and basic finance.

  • Experience preparing presentations and related materials

  • The highest levels of maturity and professionalism and experience working with confidential and sensitive information

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills Strong with the ability to assist in business planning and data-driven decision-making

  • Strong software skills including MS Outlook Calendar, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint required; previous experience with accounting/bookkeeping software (QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, etc.) preferred.  

  • Strong attention to detail, exceptional time management and organization skills

  • Proactive, self-starter who can operate autonomously in a startup environment

  • Ability to travel extensively

The Analyst will play a key role within Gray Capital, an investment fund with interests in real estate, private equity, and venture. You will report to the Vice President of Gray Capital and will be an integral part to the growth of the business with a path to growing responsibility. In this role, you will be responsible for screening, due diligence, financial modeling, and valuation of real estate investments as well as new acquisition and strategic investment opportunities.

 

In This Position, You Will Have the Opportunity To:

 

  • Work directly with the Vice President in vetting/tracking potential real estate investments, potential acquisition candidates, and strategic investments candidates.

  • Develop financial models to monitor the performance of various investments and provide regular updates.

  • Assemble corporate real estate portfolio analysis; formulate monthly and annual reviews of area real estate portfolio.

  • Perform financial analysis, valuation and financial modeling and prepare due diligence materials on prospective investments; responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Assisting the Vice President with the development of financial projections and returns models;

    • Conducting financial analysis to assess companies’ historical financials, unit economics, customer-by-customer details, pipeline and backlog details, and other key performance indicators (KPIs);

    • Analyzing market size, competitive landscape, and market segments.

  • Prepare for, document, and support diligence calls handling professionally with courtesy and curiosity.

  • Take calls and meetings on behalf of the Vice President or managing partner, as needed, and professionally represent Gray Capital in these calls and meetings.

  • Perform market research and develop reports on Gray Capital’s targeted investment themes as well as develop market landscapes and lists of innovative companies to be contacted.

  • Refine existing database to track and monitor sourcing activities; log new opportunities into CRM database.

  • Assist the Vice President in generating and tracking deal flow.

  • Leverage interpersonal skills and network to assist portfolio companies in any way; bring to bear the full weight of the firm’s network on behalf of portfolio companies.

  • Travel to offices, portfolio locations, business partner locations, conferences and other meetings, as needed.

  • Take on other duties as assigned.

 

To Be Successful in this Position, You Will Need:

 

  • An undergraduate degree with a high GPA from a selective four-year university with a transcript offering evidence of strong performance in both quantitative and verbal areas of study. MBA preferred.

  • 3-5 years of post-undergraduate work experience; any prior experience in Real Estate, Construction or any related field would be a plus and also any prior experience in private equity, venture capital or real estate investment would be a plus.

  • Strong skills in writing reports, proposals, and white papers demonstrated ability to write precisely, effectively, and persuasively. Ability to speak and write clearly.

  • To be poised, pleasant, polished, professional, and able to comfortably interact professionally and effectively with managers, clients, and C-Suite executives.

  • A can do/proactive attitude towards getting work done.

  • Maturity and integrity – this person will see and hear many things that are confidential. Must be mature enough to be trusted with that information.

  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point, CRM Software, etc.)

  • A strong sense of urgency and a positive, proactive desire to support a broad range of initiatives and tasks.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities.

  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills with an analytical, metrics-driven approach to solutions.

  • Ability to travel as needed.
